JERRET Kimber Lee

Vita

The 2019 retrospective of the FrauenFilmTage is dedicated to Kimber Lee Jerrett and the subject of light. As a senior gaffer, she has worked in the Austrian and international film scene as well as in advertising since 2003. Kimber Lee Jerrett drew attention to herself through her lighting design in Michael Haneke’s award-winning film THE WHITE RIBBON – A German Children’s Story together with cinematographer Christian Berger. Current examples of her approach to lighting design are evident in L’ANIMALE by Katharina Mückstein, HER MIT DER MARIE! by Barbara Eder, which was an episode in the German “Tatort” TV series, as well as the urban comedy GESCHENKT by Daniel Prohaska for television.

Kimber Lee Jerrett on the passion she feels for her profession:… Every stage of the process is thrilling for me. It’s exciting for me to see if a lighting concept we came up with works out. Whether it’s a matter of faces, landscapes or spaces, I love the freedom I have to bring my lighting ideas to bear. Making a movie is all about teamwork in every way. …

Interview (in german)

Basis sind oft sogenannte „Mood-Bilder“, also Stimmungsbilder.

Vita

This year’s FrauenFilmTage tribute goes to Margarethe von Trotta.

Since her international breakthrough with DIE BLEIERNE ZEIT (The German Sisters) in 1981, winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Margarethe von Trotta has been considered as one of the greatest international film directors. As a former actress, she debuted as a director with the Film DIE VERLORENE EHRE DER KATHARINA BLUM (The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum) in 1975, based on a novel by Heinrich Böll, co-directed with Volker Schlöndorff. In 1977, she directed her first own film DAS ZWEITE ERWACHEN DER CHRISTA KLAGES (The Second Awakening of Christa Klages). Further milestones of her filmography are ROSA LUXEMBURG (1986), DAS VERSPRECHEN (The Promise) (1994), ROSENSTRASSE (2003) and HANNAH ARENDT (2012), awarded with multiple prizes. Her films not only portrait strong Women but often discuss important political issues.

In 2018, she directed her first documentary AUF DER SUCHE NACH INGMAR BERGMAN (Searching for Ingmar Bergman).

We are very much looking forward to welcome Margarethe von Trotta in Vienna from 1.3 to the 3.3.
